Mandarins originate from China, where they have been historically regarded as a symbol of good fortune and have a significant, sacred meaning in Chinese New Year celebrations. Mandarins were introduced to Italy and Sicily in the early 19th century and are now considered the finest for mandarin oil extraction. Mandarin oil is extracted before the fruits are ripe.
