Her feet were slightly damp, half licked by the ocean's gentle waves lapping at the shore. The grains of sand clung to her toes like microscopic sea creatures, grinding against each other under her movements. Her toes gripped the sand and lifted momentarily as she walked, the sand dropping to the ground in waves only to be picked up again with the next step. The grinding and raining down of sand created a soft repetitive rhythm. Crunch, silence, rain, thump. Crunch, silence, rain, thump. The rhythm picked up, quickening as she picked up her pace. Now the falling of the sand was barely audible between footsteps as she ran. Crunch, silence, thump, crunch, silence, thump. She moved faster and faster. As she ran, her weight tempered the amber sand in deeper footprints and behind her the sea washed over them erasing her path. Crunch, silence, rain, thump. Crunch, silence, rain, thump. The rhythm seemed louder, almost deafening, it was drumming heavily in her ears. The ocean and the sand's rhythm flushed out any thoughts in her head. She could go on forever.
